Romance and fake-relationship scams

They start with attention. They move the chat off the app. Then come the emergencies: travel, lawyers, customs, medical bills, an investment “so we can be together.” Real partners do not need you to buy gift cards or feed a Bitcoin ATM.

First-hour steps

  1. Stop sending money and codes.

  2. Do not accept a “helper” who appears after you get suspicious.

  3. Tell your bank. File FTC and IC3. Submit a report here.

  4. Tell one trusted person. Shame is part of how this crime works.
