What Happened to Humboldt?
A Lost Coast Populist asks…
Over the past year or so, I find myself having this conversation with increasing frequency. Many longtime visitors and residents of Humboldt County are shocked by the shift in attitude amongst their friends and neighbors towards corporate oligarchs and their government partners. Humboldt County is the place that won the greatest victory in the history of the environmental movement by preserving the Headwaters Forest, prohibited nuclear energy, fought against unjust cannabis laws for decades, and banned the farming of GMO crops.
I remember my first trip to Humboldt in August of 1991. I was an 18 year old Deadhead living in Tahoe and travelled here to see the Jerry Garcia Band perform at French’s Camp in Piercy. Having grown up in Michigan my entire life and only recently moved to California, I was shocked and delighted by what I witnessed that glorious summer day on the banks of the south fork of the Eel River. There were people walking around naked and openly smoking weed with no police in sight. I was offered free LSD several times along the short walk from my car to the concert bowl. There was an air of freedom and an overall feeling of love and acceptance unlike anything I had experienced in my life.
Standing in the crowd that day looking around at the people and the breathtaking beauty of the Redwood Forest, I knew this place was special and somewhere I would be spending a lot of time in the future. Another thing I noticed was all the “US out of Humboldt” bumper stickers. Despite my youth, I was very much aware of politics and already had a strong distrust of government and corporations. I saw how President Bush attacked our scene with his Operation Dead End and Operation Green Sweep. As a daily user of Cannabis and occasional user of psychedelics, I saw no good reason why the government was so strongly opposed to these natural and safe substances. Then I read The Emperor Wears No Clothes by the late and great Jack Herer that explained the collusion between the oligarchs and the government to make cannabis illegal. I understood then who the enemy of the people was and still is.
After years of visiting Humboldt regularly, I made the decision to move here full time when I found out I would be raising my first child. There were many reasons for this decision: the clean air and water, access to organic foods, plethora of alternative education options, prevalence of natural health practitioners and what I believed to be a large number of like minded people. Since my early twenties, I have chosen a mostly natural approach to health for myself and later for my family. I don't have a primary care physician and rarely take pharmaceutical drugs. Unless I’m experiencing trauma, I avoid the hospital. I have been well aware of the influence of the pharmaceutical companies over our government and our mainstream healthcare system and I just don't trust it.
I was injured by the one and only vaccine I received as a child and my mother never gave me another. Every school I attended had personal exemptions for vaccinations (as California did until the pharmaceutical companies paid politicians in Sacramento to remove them). I am now 48 years old, never have had surgery, do not have any ongoing health issues, and rarely get sick. That being said, I’ve had full Covid symptoms twice now. I had a fever, body aches, fatigue, cough, and lost my taste and smell both times.
The first time was in January 2020 and was definitely stronger. I believe the first round being stronger may have been because I hadn't been taking the regimen of supplements I’m taking currently. I also did not have anything on hand other than goldenseal. I’m sure it's also probable the original strain was stronger as well. I was laid out for a full day with all the symptoms, followed by a few days of fatigue, but then was back to normal.
The second time was four weeks ago and was much easier. I have been taking a regimen of Quercetin, Vitamin C & D, Zinc, NAC, Chlorophyll, and the Stamets 7 mushrooms. The first day was mostly sinus drainage and a slight cough. On day two, my symptoms increased. The coughing got worse and became painful, my smell and taste stopped working, then the fever, fatigue, and body aches set in. At this point I was sure it was Covid again.
Thankfully I didn’t listen to our incompetent local health officer Ian Hoffman when he lied and said there is no scientific evidence that Ivermectin works for Covid. Hoffman stated this despite the numerous studies from around the world I have shared with him via email. I had ordered Ivermectin in advance from a source I found on the America’s Frontline Doctor’s website, flccc.net. I took one dose of this safe and effective medicine, along with 10mg of Melatonin, and slept for four hours. When I awoke my fever and fatigue were gone, I felt like I could do pushups. The next day I felt fine but still couldn't taste or smell. I took another dose and the following day I woke up and could smell and taste again. I followed the directions on my prescription and took one dose per day for ten days. Like clockwork, my lone lingering symptom, a runny nose, ended on that tenth day.
Living in Humboldt today feels like the Bizarro World from the Superman comic where everything is backwards.The Farmer’s market won’t allow FDA approved GMO products to be sold, yet they have a vaccination booth. Eureka Natural Foods where I’ve bought my food and natural medicine for well over a decade goes beyond the mask mandate and refuses to allow anyone with a medical mask exemption to shop, even though the mandate allows these exemptions. This action not only violates the local mandate but also the Americans with Disabilities Act. ENF even goes so far as to chase you around the store while filming you with their phones - without consent, if you attempt to shop without a mask, regardless of any medical reason you may have for not wearing one. ENF states that you can order for curbside pickup but it takes up to 72 hours and has a $50 order minimum.
People I have known, loved, and respected for a decade or more are quoting Fauci like he’s some trusted authority. Fauci is the same guy that completely botched the AIDS epidemic and was responsible for countless unnecessary deaths. He ran the same playbook he’s running now: faulty PCR tests, suppression of effective treatment protocols, promotion of an expensive, ineffective, and dangerous treatment (AZT), etc. Does this sound familiar? Are we honestly trusting a career bureaucrat with a history of shady behavior?
I’ve heard people I once respected actually say “The shot is safe, it’s FDA approved.” Seriously? The FDA? The same FDA that tells us they can’t reschedule cannabis because they don't have enough evidence of safety or medical efficacy? I guess 2,500 years of human use with zero deaths isn't enough evidence. The FDA has recalled 383 drugs since August 30th, 2017 by the way; hardly a trustworthy regulator. The FDA stated Aspartame was safe but it nearly killed my mother. Her reaction was so severe she was flown to DC and testified before a congressional committee about the serious health problems she experienced from ingesting it.
At this point you may be asking, how did we get here? There are several factors that have contributed to this spell that has been put on so many members of our community. First and foremost is the biased media in our country from the national level all the way down to the local level. This obvious and overwhelming bias amongst our local media was the impetus for me to write this article and start lostcoastpopulist.substack.com.
I have been banned from the comments section of both the Lost Coast Outpost and the North Coast Journal, or as I like to call them and will refer to them as from this day forward, the Lost Coast Outhouse and the North Coast Urinal, for what they describe as spreading “misinformation.” The communists at these propaganda outlets honestly still consider themselves liberals. The very definition of liberal is to be open to the behavior, opinions and ideas of others. They are not liberal. They are selective authoritarians that want to force their ideology upon those that disagree with them. No matter they say, their actions show how they operate.
A major factor in all of this Covid psychosis is how many of our community members joined what I like to call, the Orange Man Bad Cult. In order to remain in the OMBC one must have utter contempt for the Orange Man and all his supporters. Under no circumstances can you say anything positive about the Orange Man nor can you associate with his voters. If you do, you will be forever banished from the OMBC, get labeled a racist, and also get blamed for climate change as well. The latest requirement to stay in the OMBC is that you must take the cult’s sacrament, the Covid-19 MRNA shot. You may not associate with anyone that isn’t up to date with their latest available booster. Only Saint Fauci is a reliable source of information about C19. Anyone that speaks against St. Fauci is a heretic and should not only be ignored, but also censored as they are most certainly spreading misinformation. Under no circumstances should you speak positively about any treatment unless it is approved by his holiness, St. Fauci, or face permanent banishment from the OMBC.
This cult was formed the moment Donald J. Trump came down that golden escalator and announced his intention to run for president. The corporate media began the largest smear campaign in the history of the free world. The fake news took his comments about MS-13, one of the most violent and dangerous gangs on the planet, and twisted them to say he was a racist. Trump is the man that bought Mar-a-Lago and desegregated it, the first club in Palm Beach to do so. He is also the man that Oprah had as one of her last five guests when she ended her show.
I have to admit that before I started paying attention and looking at information from all sides, I believed it too. I was a Bernie supporter up until his “losing” the 2020 primary. When he “lost” that race, I decided to look at as much information as I could find on both candidates before making a decision. What I discovered was shocking to say the least. Trump was by far the better option. When I told my friends this, I was immediately labeled a racist by people that have known me for decades. I knew then that something fishy was going on in our country.
Everyone that was once anti-Trump, then switched, has their awakening moment. For me, it was Matt Taibbi’s article about the Russian Collusion Hoax. To find out it was Hillary that colluded with Russia and paid for the Steele Dossier, in order to get FISA warrants to spy on a duly elected President, was shocking to say the least. For others, it was one of the many fake news stories about President Trump that opened their eyes to the truth. Sharyl Attkinson wrote a great article detailing over 150 of these media lies about Trump that I strongly recommend, it's shocking to say the least.
So after four years of nonstop news building Trump into the biggest boogeyman in history, along came Covid. The media did a great job of taking the fear of Trump and merging it with this “deadly virus” to make a super monster to really scare the people. That fear, combined with an unhealthy attachment to an anti-Trump identity, has so many people ignoring what they’ve known for years to be the enemy, corporate oligarchs and their government partners.
Even Trump is guilty in all of this as he funded the pharmaceutical companies to develop the vaccines and purchased the doses in advance. That money came from the US Treasury - meaning that’s our money. To top it all off, it’s also our money that pays for any injury claims from the vaccine. The manufacturers have no liability for vaccine injuries, neither do the doctors. I’ve never pretended that Trump is some sort of savior or that he was perfect in any way. I’ve only claimed he was a better option than the current resident of the White House. These past nine months have only reinforced that belief. I mean, if you were trying to destroy our nation, what would you have done different? This current regime is by far the most incompetent administration in the history of America. When it comes to the vaccination issue, all I can say positive about Trump is that at least he stands for medical freedom and opposes these racist and tyrannical vaccine mandates. I’ll also give him credit for promoting therapeutics. He was pushing Hydroxychloroquine way back in March 2020. The deal that he put together with Kodak to make chemical inputs for HCQ was brilliant. Not only could we have stopped the pandemic for a fraction of the cost of vaccines, saving hundreds of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars. We could have also revived a great American company and put more Americans to work.
Of course the corporate media managed to find some loose connections, make up a fake story about collusion, and killed the deal. They also attacked a brilliant physician, Dr. Stella Immanuel, over her religious beliefs in order to discredit HCQ, which we now know works. I’m sure the fact that having a known effective treatment available negates any emergency use authorization for their vaccines had nothing to do with any of that. They love us and want what’s best for us, right? Pay no attention to the record profits enjoyed by the vaccine manufacturers while inflation is driving up the price of everything for the average American. Sleepy Joe is going to Build Back Better. Lol.
Now that we have a better understanding of how we got here, you may be asking, what are we gonna do about it? You’ll have to wait for my next article where I’ll share some ideas for how we can save Humboldt.
